Jim was introduced to the philosophy of Chinese medicine after becoming a martial arts student of Kung Fu in 1989. His interest deepened through further studies in Qi Gong energy work and Taijiquan under renowned practitioners such as Master Erle Montaigue and Alan Williams in Australia and Francois Hainry, head of the French Taijiquan Association and representative of Master Montaigue, in France. His interest in martial arts and Chinese culture led him to study acupuncture and Chinese medicine.

Jim has been practising acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, including Chinese massage therapy (Tui Na), since he completed his training at the Australian College of Natural Medicine, Brisbane, in 1997. In 2008 he extended his training by adding Remedial massage to his repertoire. In 2009 Jim became acquainted with the Japanese style of acupuncture, drawn to the gentle needle and moxibustion techniques. He has been studying and practising it ever since, including Toyohari meridian therapy, Kiiko Matsumoto's Clinical Strategies, Sotaï Structural Balance and Shonishin, the Japanese form of paediatric therapy.

Most recently, Jim has been studying under Tsuyoshi Shimamura Senseï, one of the most respected acupuncturists in Japan and an apprentice of the Master Acupuncturist, Kiyoshi Nagano.

With his background in martial arts and Taiji, as well as his studies in massage, Sotaï and Remedial therapies, Jim has a particular interest in musculoskeletal and structural conditions and how these can impact on our health. He is interested in how energy moves and circulates through the body and how postural, structural, mental and emotional blockages can affect this circulation. He believes that by restoring balance to the structural integrity of the body we can improve many, if not most of our health conditions.

Jim is passionate about his profession and continues to learn and develop new skills, so that he can offer the best possible outcomes for his clients. After many years of professional practice in Australia and Europe, Jim has developed an approach combining Japanese meridian therapy with aspects of Deep tissue massage, Shiatsu, Sotaï structural balance as well as  Qi gong energy work.
