From an Oriental medicine perspective, women lose a significant amount of energy and blood during pregnancy, delivery and breastfeeding. The sooner we can take steps to address these issues the healthier and more vibrant the new mother will feel.
Regular acupuncture treatments before, during and after pregnancy can help maintain a healthy, nourishing physical and emotional environment for the baby and the mother alike. Fertility issues are addressed thoroughly in preparation to pregnancy and include diet and lifestyle advice in order to enhance the chances of becoming pregnant.
Occasionally, pregnancy can cause unexpected issues for the health of both the mother and the unborn baby. These may include nausea, headaches, sciatica or general back or pelvic pain amongst other possible problems. Regular treatments may help address these issues in conjunction with other modalities.
Acupuncture also may help to prepare for delivery of the baby. From 20 weeks onwards we can start to use special moxibustion techniques to prepare for birth and support a healthy delivery. If the pregnancy is prolonged over 40 weeks or more, acupuncture may be used as an adjunct to help stimulate the uterus and initiate the birthing process in a natural way.
After birth, continued treatments provide postpartum recovery and support for both mother and child. Our therapies may address concerns such as muscular-skeletal problems, fatigue, anxiety, pain and discomfort, constipation and nutritional imbalances.
